Digital Literacy

Community Service offers online Digital Literacy training to program participants, ANSBI staff members/directors, and Community Members. The program welcomes individuals to take the advantage of this service to improve and expand their knowledge on digital literacy and the technological world we live in. Use of the local KABR Radio Station helps to broadcast Digital Literacy to the community of Alamo and surrounding areas. Alamo Navajo School Board encourages employees to take advantage of this service. Digital Literacy is a product of Northstar Digital Literacy that defines basic skills needed to perform tasks on computers. Online, self-guided modules assess the ability of individuals to perform tasks based on these skills. Basic computer digital literacy standards and modules fall in three main areas:

• Essential Computer Skills – Basic Computer Skills, Internet Basics, Using Email, Windows OS, Mac OS
• Essential Software Skills – Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google Docs
• Using Technology in Daily Life – Social Media, Information Literacy, Career Search Skills, Accessing Telehealth Appointments, etc.

Northstar was developed in response to the needs of job seekers who may lack the digital literacy skills needed to seek, obtain, and retain employment, as well as perform other daily life tasks. A Northstar Digital Literacy Certificate is awarded when individual assessments are passed. The Certificates serves as an important credential for employment.
