The Office of Environmental Technical Assistance

Eight Northern Indian Pueblos Council

About

The Office of Environmental Technical Assistance (OETA), in partnership with Eight Northern Indian Pueblos Council, assists the 21 pueblos and tribes of New Mexico and the Ysleta del Sur Pueblo of Texas.

We facilitate the betterment of environmental resources and environmental health. Explore our wide range of programs to learn about how we assist communities in prioritizing the protection of their tribal lands from environmental hazards and pollutants.

The mission of the OETA is to promote, protect and preserve tribal environments by assisting pueblos and tribes in building capacity to enhance tribal values, culture, lands, and health.

The OETA was established in 2005 as a priority of the All Indian Pueblos Council (AIPC) in conjunction with the Mescalero and Jicarilla Apache Nations and the Ysleta del Sur Pueblo in Texas, to improve environmental program capacity and provide a regional resource for technical assistance.

OETA assists 22 pueblos and tribes in NM and Texas in promoting the enhancement of environmental resources, environmental health and in the protection of tribal lands from environmental hazards.

The expansion of outreach and development of technical support services is based upon needs identified by the 22 pueblos and tribes.

The Eight Northern Indian Pueblos Council (ENIPC) was selected by Pueblo and Tribal leadership as the sponsoring organization for the OETA office. The ENIPC has been in existence for over 40 years serving the eight northern pueblos.
