STEAM Coordinator – Zuni Public Library (Open Until Filled)

GENERAL DEFINITION:  The primary responsibility of this position will be to collaborate with the Children’s Program Coordinator to develop and implement all STEAM programs.   

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:   Work will be performed under the supervision of the Librarian.

SUPERVISION EXERCISEDWill supervise youth and volunteers.

DUTIES:

Collaborate with the Children’s Program Coordinator to plan, design, and deliver engaging STEAM programs.

  • Design and implement a comprehensive and engaging STEAM program with goals and objectives for K-12 age groups.
  • Plan and execute STEAM activities for K-12 during calendar year for the Zuni Public Library.
  • Create hands-on, age-appropriate lessons to promote creativity, problem solving, and inquiry-based learning.
  • Adapt activities to meet diverse learning needs, interests, and skill levels.
  • Develop new STEAM curriculum ideas based on current trends, community needs, and training opportunities.
  • Ensure all STEAM supplies are stocked and in good condition.
  • Submits listing/orders for purchase of supplies.
  • Maintains an organized and tidy work area.
  • Promote, recruit, and implement all STEAM programs.
  • Collaborate with potential community partners (museums, schools etc.) to develop field trips, volunteer engagement opportunities, curriculum partnerships, etc.
  • Evaluate program curriculum and implementation.
  • Provide guidance and role modeling to members.

Ensure safety and supervision.

  • Provide active supervision of all children; maintain a safe, structured, and inclusive environment at all times.
  • Follow all program safety protocols and behavior management guidelines.
  • Create an environment that facilitates the achievement of youth development outcomes.

Documentation and reporting.

  • Provides monthly report to the Library Board.
  • Maintain and submit all record keeping including, but not limited to, program reports, member enrollment, attendance reports, and activity calendars.

Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Attends training to expand STEAM knowledge and develops new programs and activities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIESKnowledge of STEAM and/or Robotics. Knowledge of working with school-aged children. Ability to supervise and control large groups of children. Ability to plan and implement quality programs for youth.  Ability to motivate youth and deal effectively with behavior problems. Strong communication skills both with staff, participants, parents, and management.  Ability to develop and implement creative activities. Ability to work well with others in a team setting. Ability to plan and coordinate activities. Must have planning and organizational skills. Ability to communicate in English (verbally and in writing) and in Zuni (verbally). Knowledge with computers and technology (3D printing).  Ability to work well with a diverse group of staff and volunteers. Ability to effectively manage a wide array of tasks, projects, and responsibilities.  Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with tribal employees, children and their families, and the general public.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: High school Diploma or equivalent with one (1) year of job-related experience. Some college courses and foundation in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.  

LICENSE AND CERTIFICATES: Must have a valid New Mexico’s Driver’s License with no DWI/DUI convictions within the past three (3) years. Driving is an essential part of the duties.

  • First Aid/CPR Certification
  • Trained as a mandatory child abuse reporter or able to complete this training upon hire.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  The position requires minor physical exertion such as short periods of standing, walking over rough uneven surfaces, some recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or similar activities. The position may require recurring lifting of lightweight objects with infrequent bending or stooping alternating with the lighter activities. The position requires minimal agility and dexterity.

SPECIAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Position is subject to Pre-Employment drug testing. Position is Safety Sensitive and will be subject to random drug screening for duration of employment, in compliance with he Pueblo of Zuni Drug and Alcohol Free Workplace Policy. Must undergo and successfully pass a background check and FBI Fingerprint check. Must have a pre-employment Tuberculin Skin Test. Hours generally Monday through Friday and Saturday between 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm. The candidate must have a positive attitude and serve as a role model to participants in the program.
